:  an inflammatory autoimmune disease that has been induced in laboratory animals and especially mice by injecting them with diseased tissue from affected animals or with myelin basic protein and that because of the similarity of its pathology to multiple sclerosis in humans is used as an animal model in studying this condition—abbreviation EAE; called also experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis
